The Graduate Institute of Sports Science was established on August 1, 1989. It was the first institute in Taiwan that started to offer Master's programs on sports science. It has offered PhD’s programs from 2013. The aim of the institute is to provide excellent research environment and educate sports science researchers. The research results help to improve athletic performance and build up sports related information system. Research fields include nutritional biochemistry, exercise physiology, health-related physical fitness, sport information system design, computer database design studies, motor learning and control, sport technology innovation design. |
Dept. and Graduate Institute of Athletic Training and Health | |
The Department of Athletic Training and Health established in August 1991 is the first of its kind in the nation for development of athletic training and health promotion. To provide physically active individuals with comprehensive health management and safety, the department develops two major programs: one is athletic training, and the other is physical fitness. Furthermore, to cultivate excellent clinical practitioners and researchers of athletic training and health promotion and to offer opportunities for advanced studies, the graduate master program was established in the Fall of 2001. The graduate master program provides exceptional academic environment for injury prevention and health promotion. The master program also offers two separate major areas of studies. The athletic training major focuses on all clinical issues on sports participation while the fitness major focuses on the practical issues on health promotion and fitness instruction. | |
Department of Recreation and Leisure Industry Management | |
The Department of Recreation and Leisure Industry Management (DRLIM) is to develop well-educated citizens that provide healthful leisure and recreation experiences at the region, national, and international levels in order to improve quality of life, provide leadership and service to communities, and contribute to the advancement of the profession. DRLIM is concerned with the many aspects of human movement and its application to sport management, leisure and recreational activity, and the quality of life. Within DRLIM students have the opportunity to study in one of several focused areas of sport, leisure, and recreational management. Our degree programs prepare students to compete successfully for careers in the allied leisure and recreational industries, public systems, and sport management positions. | |
Department of Sport Promotion | |
This teaching unit was established in 1988 and its original name was Department of Physical Education (a two-year program) aimed for continuing the professional education in graduates of junior physical education (PE) college, nurturing higher PE professionals, and promoting national PE development. For the trend of international development of sport promotion education and the needs of integrating sports and leisure activities, this unit was renamed as the Department of Sport Promotion(DSP, a four-year program) in 1999 by Ministry of Education (MOE) aimed for incubating manpower for instruction and promotion in sport games, children PE, and sports and leisure activities. To match up the returnee policy of MOE, a Two-Year Advanced Program for on-the-job students was commenced in 2000. For the international trend of sports for all, a Mater Program was added in 2004 and another Master Program for on-the-job students was originated in 2007. | |
Department of Adapted Physical Education | |
The concept of adapted physical education is one of the main issues in current education of our national policy. However, adapted physical education for people with disabilities has been neglected, and the learning resources for those disadvantaged students are relatively limited. Consequently the first department of Adapted Physical Education in our nation was established in 2002 to meet the needs. Forty-five students are admitted to the Department every academic year. | |
Graduate Institute of Athletics and Coaching Science | |
Graduate Institute of Athletics and Coaching Science was created in 2012 following the merger between the Graduate Institute of Coaching Science (created in 1994) and Graduate Institute of Sport Training Science (created in 2003). The aim of the Institute is to foster excellent coaches and to train students studying in coaching science. Most students studying in the Institute are either distinguished athletes or coaches or people who are interested in studying coaching science. The ultimate goal is to expand knowledge of related sciences and provide coaches with opportunities for advanced study in order to promote the performance and competition levels in the nation. The most distinct features of the Institute are that with practical aspects being stressed, both instructions and applications are equally emphasised in courses. Courses provide a lively and vigorous atmosphere, and that in courses sciences, plans, and designs of sports coaching and training, psychological skill training, athletes' counseling and guidance, and other knowledge are developed on the foundation of sports physiology, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports medicine and sports biomechanics. Besides, the institute provides the opportunity of international cooperation in research and application, in order to broaden the students’ international vision and increase the depth of international cooperation. International students are also welcome to pursue a doctoral degree in this department. | |
Master Program of International Sport Affairs | |
The Master Program of International Sport Affairs aims to train ISA administration executives and professionals for international sports organizations and industries, to cultivate their theory and application abilities, and to prepare them to become qualified masters of management. After graduation, students may start a career at government offices, international sports organizations, non-profit sports-related organizations, profit-oriented international sports industry, and Meetings Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry organization. | |
